Why Recognize Dr. Ramsey?
Dr. Ramsey is being recognized for his leadership in establishing the University’s Signature Partnership Initiative that promotes improvement in the standard of living and economic opportunities in Louisville’s urban core. The Initiative focuses on education, economic development, health, and social and human services.
Since February of 2007, more than 1700 University of Louisville faculty, staff, and students have participated in 96 outreach programs for West Louisville residents, including mentoring, tutoring, working with small and minority businesses, participating in neighborhood clean-up, conducting dental screenings, and many other activities. Approximately 60 community organizations and public agencies have joined with the university. The university and its partners have received more than $1 million dollars in grants and contracts to support their work.
Dr. Ramsey also is being recognized for the University’s Cardinal Covenant program that helps students from low-income families pay for their education. Since the program began in the fall of 2007, 169 of students have benefited from this program. About 100 more are expected this fall.
