REAL PEOPLE REAL CHALLENGES REAL SOLUTIONS
Homeless families are showing up at our shelters more frequently than ever. Layoffs and unforeseen medical expenses are forcing more families out of their homes as they fall behind on rent payments or face foreclosures. Homelessness can be just a paycheck away. We have provided shelter and programs for homeless families for 25 years. But we cannot accommodate all the families that need help.

Meet four families who came to our shelter last winter whose stories are told in a powerful photo documentary.
And, read the stories of others who found hope, like Phonecia and Charlie:
Phonecia was a 28-year-old Army veteran and a single mother of an 8-year-old boy and seven-month-old girl. She lost her roommate and was unable to afford the apartment on her own.
Charlie was eight years old when he came to our Family Emergency Shelter with his mother and two older brothers. The personal concern of a Volunteers of America caseworker changed Charlie’s life.
