Power of 1 Breakfast

More than 500 community supporters, staff, and clients came together to celebrate “One Community, One Future, One Hope” at our third annual Power of 1 Breakfast in Louisville on October. 6, 2011. The event raised nearly $200,000 to support long-term solutions for the people we serve.

Help us send a child back to school with confidence

More than 125 children receiving support from Volunteers of America of Kentucky will soon go back to school. Without a safe and stable place to live, homeless families with school-aged children living at our Family Emergency Shelter in Louisville or receiving services from our Family Supportive Housing Program in Lexington need your support. Your financial contribution or donation of school supplies and uniforms helps homeless children excel in their studies, fit in with their peers, and take pride in themselves and their education.

Scott Lux - 1953-2011

Volunteers of America of Kentucky recently lost a beloved member of our staff: Scott Lux, manager of Third Step — a program in our Clinical Services division — where he enthusiastically and compassionately provided the highest levels of service to our clients. He was also known as the resident historian for the Shelby Street Substance Abuse Treatment Campus, which was previously the city’s hospital serving African-American patients. Scott dedicated much of his free time to researching this rich history and sharing his findings with our staff, the community, and Louisville’s medical professionals. He was also a Positive Change Society member and ambassador, introducing his friends and colleagues to the organization that he so passionately loved. And we loved him in return.

HIV/AIDS Emerging Communities grant funding available

Volunteers of America of Kentucky is offering Emerging Community grants for the provision of HIV-related services in efforts to decrease gaps in services. Those services can include risk reduction, housing, linguistics, legal, food bank or home delivered meals, outreach, psychological support, rehabilitation, respite care, and counseling. Application deadline is May 1, 2011.

Support our Volunteer Program

In 2010, more than 500 volunteers donated 4,000 hours of their time to Volunteers of America, helping create a brighter future for homeless families and others in need. Help us reach our goal of raising $1,500 for paint, plants, and craft materials that help volunteers work their magic and create positive change in the lives of individuals we serve.

Walk with Volunteers of America in the 19th Annual Louisville AIDS Walk

Join Volunteers of America's team on Sunday, September 25, 2011 as we walk to support the fight against HIV/AIDS! Each year, thousands of Louisville and Southern Indiana residents from all walks of life flock to the Belvedere to walk in support of those infected and affected, to honor the memory of those lost, and to renew their commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS. The Volunteers of America team will meet behind the Kentucky Center for the Arts for a team photo at 2 p.m., followed by the walk at 3 p.m.
