Services to Support Homeless Families
Volunteers of America manages the oldest continuously operated homeless shelter for families in the city of Louisville.  Across Kentucky, a variety of programs serve homeless families, women with disabilities and their children, and pregnant and parenting teens by providing housing and intensive case management.  Proven therapeutic techniques are used to enhance life skills and achieve the goals of safe, affordable, permanent housing and self sufficiency. Programs include:

Shelby Men's Center
Designed for Homeless and Chronically Homeless men living with both substance abuse and mental illness, the Shelby Men’s Center promotes hope and recovery through comprehensive programming. Funded with support from HUD (Housing & Urban Development), our Sheby Men's Center houses up to eight men ages 18 and older completing primary treatment and working towards permanent housing. The program enables residents to engage in life skills training, individual and group counseling, employment readiness and long term housing. Residents may live at the Shelby men center for up to two years.

We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.
