Power of 1 Breakfast

More than 500 community supporters, staff, and clients came together to celebrate “One Community, One Future, One Hope” at our third annual Power of 1 Breakfast in Louisville on Oct. 6. Attendees heard a powerful message about the impact their financial support has on families struggling with homelessness, addiction, and other challenges. In addition to a touching musical performance from Appalatin, the program included remarks from President’s Advisory Council member Don Kelly of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs LLC; President and CEO Jane W. Burks; and Carl Williams, Director of the Master of Arts in Teaching Program at Bellarmine University. Former client Cassondra Allen shared her experience in Volunteers of America’s transitional housing services more than 27 years ago, when she was a single mother with a young son. Allen was able to earn her GED, complete training to become a medical assistant, and move into stable, affordable housing with the help of Volunteers of America. Since that time, she has never been homeless again and never relied on public housing again.

The event raised nearly $200,000 to support long-term solutions for the people we serve. We thank the many staff members who volunteered their time to help make the Power of 1 Breakfast a success!
